OUR FAVORITE
PUBLICATION IMAGES
Since ASATO's inception, several publications have showcased our designs in some awe-inspiring imagery. From Harper's Bazaar to Vogue Magazine, these photographers successfully captured the breath-taking design, diligent attention-to-detail, and momentous environments that ASATO has become synonymous with. We collectively sifted through these keepsakes with founder and creative director Asato Kitamura, to select our three standout visuals from the past few years, and share the stories that earned them a special place in ASATO's history. Join us as we dive into our favorite ASATO publication images from 2022 through 2023.
1. "VOGUE ITALIA 2022"
The first publication, selected by Asato himself, has deep sentimental value for the brands' founder. After all, this VOGUE feature highlighted ASATO's first collection, "Catharsis" - representing the fashion house's welcome into the world of high fashion excellence. The image, shot by photographer Pietro D'Aprano, captures the ASATO titan "Vigilance", which symbolizes one of the eight primary emotions from Asato's "Theory of Emotion". "This experience was amazing, and Vogue featuring us opened a lot of doors", Asato shares. “Vigilance was one of the first giants I created, so this photo means a lot to me. And I’m very appreciative of them (Vogue), for helping me bring it to the world”.

2. "HAUNTED MAGAZINE 2023"
This image, captured by photography vet Greg Kaden, features model Elizabeth Kennedy in the ASATO titan “Terror”. “Even though the boots are another designers’ work, the composition is beautiful. It shows how someone who’s less familiar with ASATO’s aesthetic can pair our dramatic designs with their own style to create an amazing look” says ASATO marketing director, Elijah Gonzalez. A favorite amongst our team, the outfit conveys the daring yet sophisticated touch ASATO has become known for. According to Gonzalez, “this refined contrast of exaggerated shapes and materials is what we’re all about!”

3. "HARPER'S BAZAAR 2023"
With contending images from ELLE, GMARO, and more, selecting the final photo was a daunting task. We knew that great imagery would unfortunately be excluded, so we took extensive consideration when deciding - carefully comparing the styling, composition, and execution of countless publications. Ultimately, we decided on this Harper’s BAZAAR roll out, co-starring fashion model Judes Kim and ASATO titan “Rage” in a story expressing the range of emotion within our personal and social selfs. Photographer Yichen Zhou's image features a dramatic range of colors, contrasts, and lighting that ASATO social media manager, Cassandra Montalvo describes as “an homage to ASATO’s creativity”, adding how the image illustrates “the anger weighing heavily on a woman who’s trying to stay level-headed”. In a soliloquy of moody interpretations, Montalvo also highlighted her favorite part - a subtle sighting of ASATO’s unreleased red Geisha Boots - available in the last quarter of 2024.
